They have a lot of nick-names, but this old fashioned favorite has a new look with some of the new varieties. These sun loving succulents can survive in zones 3-9 and most will also tolerate partial shade. A well drained soil is the best, but they will tolerate brief periods of wet soil. Highly drought tolerant.
Makes an delightful evergreen ground cover and are also right at home as a house plant in a bright window.
Sempervivums reproduce vegetatively by offsetting around the base of the rosette (producing the "chicks), often forming a dense cushion. Each offset will develop roots of its own and become independent of the parent plant as the connecting stolon withers.
Heavily tufted and fringed. Evergreen red leaves. Mature size: 4-5" tall by 12" wide.
