Balloon Flower
Excellent garden perennial! - Simple to grow!

Blue flowers from May to September. The cut flowers are long lasting.
Balloon flower flower buds puff up before opening resembling small balloons, hence the name. The blue flowers are produced in July and August on tall stems that can reach 36". The plant is slow to start growth in the spring, but once growing, quickly reaches a height of about 3 feet. Stake the plants before they are flowering size as once they fall over, they usually break when straightened. Balloon flowers grow best in full sun. The plant is an excellent source of cut flowers and are great to add vertical interest to borders and walkways. They are also good choices for the back of the border along a fence.
Culture:
Propagation: Seed is somewhat fine, so should be started in flats indoors. The seed germinates in 2 to 3 weeks at temperatures between 65 and 75 degrees. Seed should be started early to produce plants that will bloom the second year, although we have had many bloom the first year. They can generally be transplanted outside after 2-3 months.
