Aronia arbutifolia

Fragrant white flowers in spring followed by bright red chokeberries. Shiny foliage and brilliant scarlet fall colors. Excellent bird habitat and food.
This fast-growing shrub does fine in wet or dry soil, in sun or partial shade, even in poor soils.
This vase shaped shrub, branching from the base, 5-7 ft in height and width, with touches of red in every season including; white flowers with red stamens in spring,
brilliant orange/red fall foliage and clusters of scarlet red berries in fall and winter
that are an important source of food for several wildlife species..
Makes an excellent specimen shrub, border shrub or even use for erosion control.
May be pruned to desired size. Also has been used for a
natural windbreak or snow fence. Makes a nice tall hedge when spaced at 5'.
Bird watchers take note: The berries are eaten by cedar waxwings, chickadees, grouse, catbirds, eastern meadowlarks and others.
Fruit is edible and a good source of vitamin C. Commonly used for juice, jams, jellies, and syrup.

Under cool fall conditions, foliage actually turns a burgundy before scarlet.
