Butterfly Weed
Asclepias tuberosa
Blooming in 1 gallon nursery pot shown
A very hardy, native, long-lived perennial. Essential to the survival of the Monarch Butterfly. The bright flowers are borne in compact clusters at the top of freely branching stems. These flowers produce nectar which attracts butterflies throughout the growing season.
Full sun and well drained soil a must. Will not survive in wet, soggy areas or shade.
Height: 12-24"
Zones 3-10
NOTE: This plant produces a very deep taproot making transplanting difficult once established. They resent division and may do poorly if moved or divided. Best left in place, so select your location carefully. Our plants are direct sown in plugs and transplanted once to 4" pots or gallon containers. This results in a complete root system with no damage when transplanting. Once established, this perennial is very dependable.
Available Spring in a 4" pot size. Shipped in-pot. Assorted colors with orange being predominant. No choice in colors.
