Pink Forsythia
Abeliophyllum distichum roseum

This round, deciduous shrub with a multi-stemmed habit is
commonly called pink forsythia. It is a rapid grower which will produce arching
branches up to 5' tall and 4' wide. It is grown primarily for its very early,
very profuse, spring bloom which consists of dense clusters of light, soft pink ,
4-petaled, slightly fragrant flowers which open from purple buds in late March
(Zone 5) and cover the naked stems before the leaves unfold. Bloom slightly
precedes related true forsythias. After bloom, the medium green foliage is
uniform and can be sheared for shape or left to grow natural.
Sun or light shade.
Adaptable to many soil conditions, preferably well-drained, acid or alkaline. Occasionally needs heavy pruning after bloom to encourage flowering in subsequent years.
Zone 4-8
Native to Central Korea.
