Thyme plants look great in the rock and herb garden!  Can also be trained into Bonsai (English type best for this).  With thyme,  there are several tiny kinds, and the creeping varieties are perfect for planting in the crevices of brick or cobblestone paths.

Culture 'Thyme'

This herb needs full sun and well draining or dry soil with a pH of 6.5 to 7.5. Old plants tend to develop an open center; to remedy this, divide them every 3 to 5 years, or replace. To harvest, cut 2 to 3 inches off of the branch tips. When they begin to bloom in the spring, prune back halfway and feed and water heavily. Winter protective mulch is a plus in zones north of 6.

Seed:  DAYS TO GERMINATION: 14-21 at 70 degrees F  Best started indoors 4-6 weeks before setting out.  Sow seed on the surface of sterile medium.  Do not cover.  Keep evenly moist until first set of true leaves appear, then keep on the dry side, but do not allow them to wilt or dry out.  Transplant into cells or individual pots when large enough to handle.  Grow on at 65 degrees with bright light.  Transplant to garden when danger of hard frost is past.

Greenhouse grown.  English, Creeping, and German Thyme started from seed or cuttings.
