Variegated Hydrangea

Hydrangea macrophylla 'variegata'

Flowering Shrub

Upright late summer flowering shrub averages 4 feet tall and 4' wide at maturity without pruning.  Beautiful lavender lace-cap flowers cover this hardy shrub beginning in mid August and continuing until frost.  A real welcome when few other shrubs are in bloom.  Nice creamy white and green leaves offer color spring through fall, even without the flowers!

Excellent for use as a specimen, screen or informal hedge.    Zones 5-8

Hardy to zone 5b.  Supplemental winter protection recommended north of zone 6.  We are in zone 5a and have them bloom if the winter is not too severe.  Under extreme winter conditions, this will die back to the ground and sprout new growth from the roots in spring.  New growth is rapid and it will still put on a good show even if it does not bloom.  Since blooms are developed on one year old wood, it would not bloom that year.

Pest and disease free and deer do not seem to bother this plant.

Our plants are container grown 10-20" height, branched.
